HYSTORICAL BACKGROUND

The S-Type was the first "small" senior car produced by the British automaker Jaguar Cars, presented to the general public in 1963, with a fantastic 3.400 or 3.800 cc engine.

In 1966 was added the model equipped with the 4.2cc engine, with increased body and a front style more similar to the Mark X sedan.

In terms of market, the S-Type was thought as a larger model and higher range than the popular Mark 2. We can assume that Jaguar saw in the S-Type the model to replace the Mk2, but in reality the S-Type shared only the hood with it.
In the end, the three models - S-Type, Mk2 and Mark X - remained in production at the same time and being cars of the same segment, in spite of any market strategy, they ended up competing with each other.

In 1966 a profound restyling gave life, together with the adoption of the engine increased to 4.2 lire, to the 420 model.

From this model the Daimler Motor Company created a more luxurious version, the Sovereign. This was the first time that Daimler used an engine produced by Jaguar in his car and rebranded Daimler instead one of his own production.
With the arrival of the XJ6, in 1968, the S-Type definitely went out of production.
